Youth Ministry

The United Methodist Youth Fellowship named themselves BLAST (Big Loud Awesome Spirit Thing). This includes all youth grades 6-12 who attend Braddock Street United Methodist Church. We seek to promote spiritual growth and maturity through the awesome truth of Jesus Christ.

Middle School includes youth in grades 6-8. Senior High is for persons in grades 9-12. These groups meet weekly on Sunday evenings as well as Sunday mornings. A free snack supper is served from 6-6:30 p.m. Large group time is 6:30-6:45 and small group (divided by age) is from 6:45-7:30 p.m.

A variety of activities are planned throughout the year for the groups including new types of worship, service projects, mission outreaches, and, of course, zany fellowship. Weekend retreats provide opportunities for study, growth, and recreation. Some of our annual retreats are the Senior High Retreat and Middle School Retreat with our conference each fall; Acquire the Fire Youth Conference or Planet Wisdom in the spring; Confirmation Retreat Weekend; and various summer trips and adventures.

Not only do the youth at Braddock Street United Methodist Church have fun, we are very intentional about making a difference in our church, our community, and our world. Service projects and fund raisers involve youth in service to their church and community. Some of our favorites are working at the Apple Harvest Festival in Burlington; Christmas caroling for our shut-ins; participating in the 30-hour Famine; hosting a Turkey Dinner and Auction for missions; and doing a wide variety of on-going services in our local congregation, including leading services annually. Our annual Mission Trip is always anticipated as well and open to those in 8th grade through recent graduates. This year some of our senior high youth will travelled to Africa and Thailand and the middle school youth joined some other senior highs going to Elizabeth City, NC to participate in home repair.

The youth choir is also very active providing music monthly as well as an annual Youth Musical Sunday. Choir rehearsal is weekly on Sundays from 5-6 p.m.

For a current schedule of special activities contact our Director of Youth Ministries.

Come BLAST!
